It’s that time of year again: The Christmas lights are going up, the traffic at the mall is suddenly nuts and your holiday office party is rapidly approaching. Instead of throwing on a potentially inappropriate outfit at the last minute before you hustle out the door to join your coworkers for holiday-themed cocktails, make a plan for a flattering, office-friendly ensemble that will leave a lasting—and positive—impression on your fellow 9-to-5ers.
Step 1: Choosing a Dress…or Maybe Some Pants
Before you decide on the main part of your outfit, consider your office culture. Do you work for a more relaxed, creative company? A sparkly dress or skirt could be a great choice. Is your office a more conservative environment? A reserved shift dress in a festive color underneath a blazer or even a tailored pantsuit with a brightly hued top might be a more appropriate option. Either way, save the mega-short skirts and cleavage-baring tops for a fun night out with your girlfriends.
Step 2: Fancy Feet
We all know shoes make an outfit. The question is, which ones will be the perfect pair to go with your chosen office party togs? A pair of sparkly heels in a neutral or metallic color would work well, or slip into some sequined flats for greater comfort. This is not the night to try out your new sky-high platforms or stilettos; you don’t want to be remembered as the girl who wore stripper shoes to the office party!
